Hurricane Florence is approaching North Carolina, and we are likely to experience strong wind and rain.  We would like to remind everyone to take precautionary measures by making a safety plan for you, your family and pets.  Keep in mind that during these types of large storms there is a greater potential for damage to your home that may require emergency maintenance.  ALL EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE CALLS WILL BE PRIORITIZED.  Please be patient and know our team is working around the clock.  Check the J.W. If you have an emergency maintenance issue at your home, due to the hurricane, such as ones below, please call our office at 800-735-0789.  If it is after hours, call this same number and follow the prompts for after-hours maintenance.  As always, DO NOT SEND IN EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE REQUEST THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. If our office is closed there is no one to receive these online requests.
Examples of true emergencies: 

  • roof leak
  • broken tree limbs that have caused damage
  • water intrusion such as broken windows or broken pipes  (NOTE: water coming through the bottom of a door is not an emergency during the Hurricane unless it is causing the property to flood).

We suggest that you: 

  • Make sure all exterior items at your home are removed or stored.  Loose, lightweight objects such as patio furniture could become projectiles in high winds.  
  • Propane tanks or other items that are unsafe to store inside should be secured
  • Locate the main water shut off for the home so you can turn off the water if there is a leak.
  • Locate the electrical panel in your home in case you need to shut down the power for safety reasons.
  • If you smell gas CALL THE GAS COMPNAY in your area.  If there is a downed powered line CALLTHE POWER COMPANY – Look up these numbers in advance and keep them at hand.
  • Please be sure to update your emergency plans in case of flooding, power outages, school closings, etc.  It's a good idea to stock up on some essentials now.  Some items to consider are batteries, flash lights, first aid kit, bottled water, and dry goods.  Go to this link to get a complete list to consider  https://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit
  • Make sure your renter’s insurance is up to date.

Please know that J.W. Hunter Company vendors will respond as quickly as possible. The vendors will be working around the clock. Please be patient.  Be sure to have your phones charged, powered on and with you at all times after reporting an emergency maintenance request. If you do not answer when they call, the vendor will need to move on to the next emergency call. ABOVE ALL, BE SAFE!
